A remark by Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., about gun control referencing President Barack Obamais making some political hay for Democrats.

"If Obama is president, maybe you need to spend more time developing a gun lock, a trigger lock," Rehberg is quoted as saying in Thursday's edition of The Ravalli County Republic.

Rehberg made the remark with a chuckle to Bonnie and Randy Jones, owners of Bitterroot Tool and Machine Shop, after Randy Jones asked about gun control. The Republic reports.

Rehberg's Democratic opponent in the November election, former attorney and Melville rancher Dennis McDonald, said in a press release that Rehberg should apologize for his apparent comment that the president's life is in danger.

"A cow pie has more intellect than what Congressman Rehberg has once again displayed," McDonald said.
