MSU-Northern matmen take down Cardinals on the road

The Montana State University-Northern wrestling team is off to a perfect 2-0 start in duals this season.

But it wasn't easy getting there. Saturday night in Coeur d'Alene, ID, the Lights knocked off one of the top NJCAA programs in the nation in the North Idaho Cardinals. Northern beat the Cardinals 22-19.

"Overall you have to chalk up a win as a win," Northern head coach Tyson Thivierge said. "It was not a pretty or flawless dual, but the most positive outcome is these young men had to dig deep and get majors and wins to come from behind. Wrestling in front if their home crowd is never easy and I am proud that our boys dug deep and found a way."

The Lights got wins from Anthony Weerheim, Ethan Hinebauch, Jared Miller, Kody Reed and Evan Hinebauch. Ethan Hinebauch's pin at 165 pounds and Reed's major decision at 184 were critical.

The Lights are back on the road Saturday at the Northwest College Open in Powell, Wyo.
