AmeriCorps works

Editor:

A member of AmeriCorps VISTA, Volunteers in Service to America, is an extraordinary individual with passion, energy and selfless dedication to the service of others. This program, created by President Johnson in 1964, gives Americans an opportunity to give one year of their life helping create, develop and implement plans to reduce poverty in this nation.

Once a year these men and women are publicly acknowledged for their humble service during AmeriCorps week, which is March 10-18 this year.

Samantha Rybicki moved to Havre this past January from South Carolina to serve in the AmeriCorps VISTA program with the Department of Public Health and Human Services Prevention Resource Center at Opportunity Link Inc. She is building the capacity of "Workin' with Tradition," a soft skills workforce development program throughout the seven reservations and border communities in Montana. Samantha is developing program materials, strengthening relationships, creating a website and fund raising to ensure the sustainability of the program.

Thank you, Samantha for, embodying the spirit of service that makes this nation great.

We would like to encourage you to take some time to get to know Samantha this week. Ask her about AmeriCorps VISTA, the hard work she has done, and even how you can help.
