Firefighters battle large grass fire

A large grass fire is reported south of Havre. The fire apparently stretches from Lorado Road toward Beaver Creek Park. though it has not struck park property yet.

High winds push flames further north Friday afternoon, just east of Laredo Road, south of Havre.

Havre firefighters and Rocky Boy police are on the scene. Among the volunteers are firefighters Rocky Boy and Bear Paw and North Havre departments were on the scnene.

Patrick Construction was on the scene with a road grader, water trucks and a cat dozer.

Authorities have assembled on a dirt road two miles southwest of the edge of the park's lower lake. The strong wind appears to be blowing it in the direction.

The National Weather Service at the Havre-Hill County Airport reproted that winds were blowing west southwest at 32 mph with gusts up to 41 mph.

Hill County Highway Department had graders on the scene to aid in the effort.

"It looks like they are getting a good handle on it," said County Commissioner Jeff LaVoi.
