Our county parks, including Beaver Creek Park, need you

The Hill County Park Board is establishing a Finance and Planning Committee.

This committee will be a permanent committee of the board that will develop recommendations, advise the Park Board and support the park manager concerning financial and planning matters primarily for Beaver Creek Park, but will include all county parks.

Beaver Creek Park is self-sustaining — not supported by tax dollars — and the park can only spend what it raises, therefore it is important to have good financial plans and management.

The committee will be five to nine members who are committed to the wellbeing of our parks, understand raising money, investing in parks and planning for the future. One or two of these will be Hill County Park Board members plus the Beaver Creek Park superintendent, while the other two to six positions will be filled by local residents.

Responsibilities of this committee include:

• Establishment and periodic review of fees for all uses occurring in the parks.

• Searching out/securing grants and overseeing fundraising activities in the interest of the parks.

• Forming long range plans for what we want our parks to be for our children and future generations.

The board is now looking for those of you who will “step up” and fully participate in the process. Our community has a good reputation of people being willing to help the common good of the region. Beaver Creek Park is a natural resource gem to take pride in and manage at the local level for all the public that uses it.

Please consider stepping up for this committee or recruiting/nominating someone to participate in this committee of the Park Board.

For more information, please contact the Beaver Creek Park office at 395-4565 or talk with any of the Park Board members.

Applications for appointment to this committee are available at the Hill County Commissioner’s office or by calling the Beaver Creek Park office at 395-4565. Applications/nominations should be submitted to the Commissioner’s office by Jan. 27.
