MDT proposes Highway 2 project near Harlem

From Montana Department of Transportation

HARLEM — The Montana Department of Transportation would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to rebuild about 6.9 miles of U.S. Highway 2 west of Harlem in Blaine County.

The project begins at Eight Mile Road at reference post 417.0 and extends east for 6.9 miles, ending near Thirty Mile Road at reference post 424.0.

Proposed work includes earthwork, drainage, surfacing, pavement markings, signing and finishing with a seal and cover — chip seal. The project will include 2 miles of passing lanes with turning lanes.

The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and efficiency of the route by bringing the design up to current standards, including wider shoulders, and adding turning and passing opportunities.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2023 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially affected landowners prior to performing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
