Blue Ponies earn Eastern A, All-State honors

The fall sports season has come to an end and many teams have been crowned champions. The Havre High football team finished their year with a 5-4 regular season record and a postseason win to make it into the Class A quarterfinals.

Tuesday, the Class A Eastern A and Class A All-State lists were released, with many from the Blue Pony squad being recognized.

Havre High head coach Ryan Gatch is proud of his team for the work they put in this year to be honored among the Class A spectrum.

"I think the most important thing is that it was a team effort," said Gatch. "We had a lot of good players on our team that allowed these kids to be noticed by the other coaches and they stood out to those guys."

Offensively, senior Mason Dionne was deemed a first-team running back. Dionne rushed for over 1,000-yards this year and this is his second all-conference award. Senior offensive lineman Kasee Henderson was recognized as a first-team player, too. This is Henderson's second year of recognition, as well.

Junior Kellen Detrick was placed on first team for the tight end/slot position. Dexter Beck, Quinn Springer and Ethan Carlson were all awarded on the second team for offensive lineman. That is four-out-of-five athletes on Havre's o-line that received praise for their efforts this season. Lastly, sophomore wide receiver Orion Thivierge was recognized on the second team.

On the defensive side of the ball, Detrick was recognized as a first-team defensive end, too, while Dionne was placed on the first team for linebackers. Beck was honored as a second team defensive lineman board and Springer was recognized as a second team defensive end. Senior Reese Bulkley was placed on the second team for safeties, while fellow senior Troy Powell was honored as a second team cornerback.

Detrick, Dionne and Henderson were honored as Class A All-State selections, too. It has been a historic year for the three players. Now, Dionne plans to attend Montana Western, while Henderson has verbally committed to Montana State University-Northern. Meanwhile, Detrick will have another year with the Ponies, where he will look to be honored once again.

Gatch mentioned that 14 players from the Havre team were recognized for academic honors, as well. Last year, there were 13 athletes honored, which broke the record. It is worth mentioning that not only do the Ponies have great players on the field, but in the classroom, too.
