From the Courts - State District Court: Man sentenced in aggravated burglary, assault charge

Steven Lee Strike Sr. was sentenced to five years in state custody followed by seven years probation on charges included aggravated burglary and assault.

Strike was charged after he was arrested for entering a residence in violation of a no contact order, arguing with and “chest bumping“ the person who lived there.

He had previous convictions of partner or family member assault, making last year’s partner or family member assault charge a felony.

He later was charged with bail jumping, for which he was convicted in a trial March 11 and sentenced to five years with the state Department of Corrections, three suspended, and ordered to pay $140 in fees and surcharges and to pay $1,023.13 in jury costs and $100 in legal fees.

A jury June 18 convicted him of the felony counts of aggravated burglary and partner or family member assault and a misdemeanor count of violation of a no contact order.

State District Judge Olivia Regar in state District Court in Havre June 22 sentenced Strike to 12 years with the state Department of Corrections with seven suspended on the burglary charge, to five years on the assault charge and to six months in jail on the misdemeanor.

She credited Strike with 301 days served and ordered him to pay $215 in fees and surcharges and ordered him to pay restitution, with the amount not listed in the court record.

She recommended Strike be screened and placed in an appropriate treatment program.

The sentences are to run at the same time and at the same time as the sentence in the bail jumping case.
