Scouts honored with several awards, promotions

Local Boy Scouts of America Scouts and units have received a number of honors recently.

Havre BSA Units, Pack 4426, Troops 1406 and 1438 and Crew 2406, were selected as the winners for the Community Award for the 2023 BSA Montana Council Anniversary Month Contest.

These Havre units were recognized at the Montana Council Awards Luncheon with a plaque, ribbons and scout bucks for each unit. Russell Petty, Kougar Lanier, Chloe Corner, Caileigh Hinkle and Pickle Corner were on hand to accept the plaque, ribbons and scout bucks.

2023 Hi-Line District Awards

The Hi-Line District of the Montana Council of the Boy Scouts of American recently held its Annual District Recognition Dessert Social. The event was held at St. Jude's Parish Center in Havre. The Hi-Line District consists of Liberty County, Hill County, Blaine County and the northern portion of Choteau County. The Hi-Line District is one of 12 Districts within the Montana Council.

The following are the awards that were presented for the 2022-23 year.

Scoutmaster of the Year - Jesse Fulbright

Den Leader of the Year - Kougar Lanier

Cub Scout Volunteer of the Year - Ernest Goettlich

Scouts BSA Volunteer of the Year - Lianna Heimbigner

Venture Leader of the Year - Bill Lanier

Hi-Line Scouter of the Year - Trevor Wilkerson

Co-Cub Scout of the Year - Keegan Siemens/Jaxson Rowlatt

Webelos/AOL Scout of the Year - Tyler Rowe

Scouts BSA Scout of the Year - Orrin Greenwood

Venture Crew Member of the Year - Chloe Corner

Den Chief of the Year - Keyon Roberts

Golden "Spike" Award - Keith Kallstrom

District Award of Merit - Heather Hummert

Rank advancement

Several Havre Boy Scouts of America units recently held ceremonies where scouts were recognized for their rank advancements.

Rank advancement is one of eight methods within the scouting program. These eight methods support the three specific objectives or "Aims of Scouting." These three "Aims of Scouting" are character development, citizenship training and personal fitness.

Troop 1438 of Havre recently held a Court of Honor. The Court of Honor was emceed by Senior Patrol Leader Noah Siemens and Assistant Patrol Leader Keyon Roberts. The following seven Troop 1438 Scouts were awarded rank advancements; John Hummert and Anthony Marsh earned the Scout Rank; Walter Heimbigner, Tallen Schend and Gabe Cline earned the Tenderfoot Rank, Blake Marsh; earned the Second Class Rank and; Noah Siemens earned the Life Rank. Troop 1438 is a boy's troop chartered by First Lutheran Church of Havre and has been continuously chartered since October of 1947.

ScoutsBSA Troop 1406 also held a Court of Honor and four youth earned rank advancements. Destiny Miller and Jayleigh Riley earned their Tenderfoot Rank, Aymie Clark earned the First Class Rank and Chloe Corner earned her Life Rank. Troop 1406 Senior Patrol Leader, Aymie Clark emceed the Court of Honor. Troop 1406 is a girls BSA Troop and is also chartered by First Lutheran Church.

Pack 4426 recently held their year-end Pack Meeting and crossover ceremony where 16 scouts from Pack 4426 earned their respective ranks. Their rank achievements are: Lion Rank - Caileigh Hinkle, Metzger Woods and Tirza Cammon; Tiger Rank - Arlo Bennett, Pickle Corner and Tyree Dust; Wolf Rank - Karston Smith and Keegan Siemens; Bear Rank - Jaxson Rowlatt, Sam Malley, Trevor Stinson, Wesley Goettlich and Zariah Dust; and Webelos Rank - Calen Mattfeldt, Derek Barthol and Rosalie Barthol. Pack 4426 has been chartered by St. Jude's Parish since 1950. Den Leader Kougar Lanier was also awarded the Den Leader Training Award.

The Scouting program also has many other recognition and award programs. One of these is the Scouts BSA Supernova awards. These awards recognize scouts in their work and achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Havre had four scouts who were recognized for earning Supernova Awards. Marcos Ramales, Keegan Siemens and Wesley Goettlich earned the Dr. Luis W. Alvarez Supernova Award and John Hummert earned the Dr. Charles H. Townes Supernova Award.
