Skylights stumble in Great Falls

Over the weekend, the Montana State University-Northern women's basketball team competed in a pair of games down in Great Falls. However, the Skylights were unable to win either of them as they lost, 68-41, to Stephens College and then lost, 85-61, to Vanguard University.

Against Stephens College Friday, the Skylights fell behind early as they trailed, 20-7, at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the Skylights trailed 36-19. In the second half, the Skylights were unable to cut into the deficit as Stephens College pulled away.

Savannah Toms led the Skylights with 10 points as she went 3-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. She also recorded four rebounds for the Skylights. Shyan Krass recorded nine points and three rebounds in the losing effort.

On Saturday, the Skylights started strong, only trailing 23-21 at the end of the first quarter. But Vanguard found momentum to take a 42-33 lead by halftime. In the second half, Vanguard pulled away to hand the Skylights their second loss of the weekend.

Rachel Van Blaricom led the Skylights with 17 points as she went 6-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line. Ryley Kehr scored 15 points as she shot 6-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three-point line.

With the two losses over the weekend, the Skylights dropped to 2-2 on the season and in non-conference play. The MSU-N women's basketball team will next head to Honolulu, Hawaii, this weekend to face Eastern Oregon University and then Chaminade University in an exhibition match.
