Breaking Sports: EOU edges Northern in Oregon

The Montana State University-Northern football team has never had much luck, or success at Eastern Oregon's Community Stadium. On Saturday in LaGrande, Ore., that trend continued. No. 16 Eastern Oregon kicked a game-winning field goal late in the fourth quarter to outlast the Lights 17-14, handing Northern an 0-2 start to its season in the process.

The Lights outgained EOU in total offense and dominated time of possession, but found themselves trailing 14-7 in early in the second half. However, a Stephen Silva touchdown knotted the game up at 14-14 with five minutes left in the third period, and from there, it was a defensive struggle. Northern wound up having four possessions in the fourth quarter, but came up empty on each one. And having the ball last, EOU's Mark David kicked the game-winning 37-yarder with just :02 left on the clock.

The Lights went up in the first half on a TD catch by David Wilson, while EOU scored on the final possession the second quarter and the first possession of the third.

MSU-N (0-2) will now head to new league member Dickinson State (1-2) next Saturday.
