The Havre High softball team is headed to the Eastern A Divisional Tournament this weekend. And, head coach Tony Vigliotti’s team is riding high after doing plenty of winning this past weekend in Butte. The Havre High track and field teams have officially reached the postseason. But before they got there, the Blue Ponies had one final meet. Last Saturday, HHS took part in the Nelson Thomas ABC Meet in Polson, against all of the Western A. The track and field postseason got underway last Friday, as the area schools in Class C competed in the District 9C meet at the Havre Middle School Track. On the boys side, the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks took home the championship with 167 points, while the North Star girls won the district championship with 157 points. The last few weeks have been busy for Montana State University-Northern head coach Shawn Huse and the Light’s basketball program. Montana State University-Northern head women’s basketball coach Chris Mouat has landed two key recruits for next season, both with ties to Montana. Mouat has announced the signing of Addie Kiefer to join the Skylight program this fall. Kiefer is a 5-10 forward who recently completed a two-year career at North Idaho College. The Havre High softball team splits a pair of recent games, as the Ponies fell to Lewistown but beat Glasgow. On Tuesday, the Ponies dropped a 5-4 decision to rival Lewistown at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The Havre High trend and field teams took part in the Glasgow Top 10 last Tuesday afternoon in Glasgow. And the Ponies who were qualified for the Top 10 did quite well. On the girls side, Havre’s Kaydence Reiter finished second in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, while Macy Brandon finished first in the 400 meters for the Ponies. The Montana state University-Northern Rodeo Team closed out the 2023-24 spring season at the University of Montana rodeo over the weekend in Missoula. Northern had cowboys and cowgirls at the top when it came to the averages. Senior Garrett Cunningham padded his stats in the saddle bronc, taking the crown with a score of 148. The Havre High tennis teams have reached an exciting part of their season. Head Coach Jeff Miller's teams have just three weeks before the divisional tournament and that journey started last weekend in Glendive. It was another busy weekend for the Havre High softball team as the Blue Ponies traveled to the Bette Pasky Memorial Tournament to take on four fellow Class A stalwarts. Last Friday saw Havre fall to defending state champion Columbia Falls 11-4 in six innings. Havre quickly bounced back with a 7-4 win over Ronan. The MSU-Northern wrestling team, of head coach Tyson Thivierge, recently added a great wrestler to the program in Ronan's Landon Bishop. Bishop was a three-time state placer and a 2024 state Class A champion at 170 pounds for the Chiefs. He's expected to compete in the upper weights for the Lights.
